Long Island Wine Country Concierge - First Entry

  1. Hello, and welcome to the blog. This is to really help the visitor coming out to our wonderful Long Island wine country region. I own The Stirling House B and B in Greenport Village. We are 99 miles from NYC. It is not far, but it is a world away. This blog is to help guests, friends, anyone really, who gets to experience the beauty and charm of our North Fork. I will talk about great restaurants, and bars, new places to check out, and local events which may be of interest. With the financial situation of the country, we weren't sure what to expect tourist-wise this year. It has been our best ever, as many smart travelers are doing stay-cations, and venturing a bit closer to home. Long Island Wine Country is on the East End of Long Island, easily reachable by the Hampton Jitney, the LIRR, car and boat. I will focus on Greenport because that is where I am, and it is where people want to be. It has a rich maritime history, and next month the Greenport Maritime Festival takes place (September 18-20, 2009.

The Stirling House is very excited about earning its NYS wine license, making us the only B and on the North Fork where guests may legally be served wine, and they may also purchase it for consumption during their stay. This was no small feat, and with the liquor authority cracking down, we feel very happy to be "legal" We recently had our first celebrity wine tastings on the waterfront porch. The guests loved them, and had sunset tastings with Perry from The Old Field Vineyards and Jim from Water's Crest Winery.

Next week is our Vine Time event, where we work with four other B and B's and many of the North Fork best businesses. It is a three night, four day food and wine adventure. The guests enjoy a stay at one of 4 B and B's, take an all day in-depth exclusive tour of four wineries, with an al fresco lunch at one of the wineries. Dinners are included, and the guests choose where they would like to dine. It also includes a special wine and cheese hour. This may be at Vine wine bar, hosted by our friend Joe Watson, or an intimate gathering on the porch overlooking the harbor and enjoying some of the regions best wines paired with artisanal cheeses.
Sonia Sotomayor just spent a few days out here...cool! Greenport is the place to be!
